Update your software

Windows

Many computer problems are caused by outdated and un-patched software, from outbreaks of ransomware to glitchy keyboards that refuse to spit out the correct letters when you tap them. A common way to fix these issue and stay vigilant to protect yourself is to stay updated. To update your computer follow the steps below.

In the bottom search bar of your window machine , type “check for updates”. Click on the highlighted green box like in the picture below.

Next click the “check for update” button at the top of the page. If your screen looks like the picture below click “Install Now”

After you have completed the steps the computer might require a restart. In this case make sure all your work is saved then restart.

Chrome OS (Chromebooks)

To check to see if you need updates on your Chrome OS click the blue setting button on the bottom right of your toolbar. After the window has open click About Chrome OS as seen in the picture below.

Next click check for updates. This will install the update and require a restart after it is complete.

Restart your computer

As silly as it sounds, if your computer is acting strange restarting the computer could fix some problems. A computer speaks one language: binary code. This means that the computer only understands 1’s and 0’s. Sometimes a computer has to send and receive billions of 1’s and 0’s and this could result in an error. A standard computer reset will force the computer to start over and fix this issue.

Clicking the bottom left windows icon, followed by clicking the power icon, will bring you to the restart tab.

Contact your teacher

Teachers can be a great resource to use. A lot of issues that people come across a teacher has had to deal with at one point or another. Emailing your students/your teacher could be the answer you have been looking for.
